The Game of Smiles is a parlour game of
a very special kind. There are
no winners, there are no losers and there is no
negativity. It is all about a creative co- operation, integrating generations
and cultures. In a time where communication tends to be more and more
impersonal, Love & Laughter© invites everyone to come together in a playful
and easy way, to meet and to share, to get to know and listen to each other and
to laugh together, to built bridges between each other and with people all over
the world. Therefore the first edition of Love & Laughter© combines the
languages German, English and Japanese as well as the language of colours.
Journeying around the game board, the players visit the fields of the
Little Angels and the Little Devils which symbolise the two sides of us all.
Questions such as: "What do you like doing when you have got time for yourself?"
or "Which toy did you always want but never received?" can be picked up. Then
there are the fields of the "Children of the World" with single words like
"reality" or "ease". Each player may express their understanding which leads
into a vivid discussion quickly.
An exceptional feature of the game is the ColourChild®. While playing,
six colour cards can be chosen intuitively from a range of 14 different colours
and placed into the ColourChild® card which symbolises a child with head, tummy,
arms and feet. The selection of colours and their positions within the
ColourChild® offer a special meaning. There are proposals for the interpretation
within the booklet of the game so that at the end everybody who is interested to
find out, may win something: a positive picture about themselves. Frederike
Herrlich and Roy Howsam, the authors of the game, brought the essence of their
lives together- experiences of management and counselling, many years studying,
practising and teaching as colour therapists and health counsellor.
The game is suitable for 2 - 6 players from 9 - 99 years,
and
younger children with a little support.
Love and Laughter©, The game of Smiles© is ideally suited for
all areas concerning caring for and about people, single persons or communities,
within the family, schools or senior homes, from family therapy to management
training, be it a medical or psychological background. It opens up an awareness
of the world of feelings and therefore stimulates and awakens the Emotional
Intelligence (EQ). "The Game of Smiles©" was tested by many for almost two years
and introduced first in Japan where it was met with enthusiasm.

with. The authors of "The Game of Smiles", a German/English team with Japanese
partners offer their understanding with this game and invite everybody to
playfully put these ideas into practice. Their secret is to remember the most
simple form of communication which is understood all over the world and
throughout all ages: the smile.

The Little Angel - The Little Devil
The Little Angel symbolises the "Dreamy" side of life. When we choose one
of the Little Angel cards, the question may awaken long forgotten experiences,
wishes and ideas from our own course of life. The angel inside of us as our life
long companion recommends: "Allow your fantasy to flow freely. Trust your
intuition and put the thoughts and ideas into action! You will be surprised how
many little miracles will show up in your life!"
The Little Devil represents the impulsive part of us which courageously
and spontaneously acts often without thinking which may be followed by
misfortunes and bad luck. Whoever draws any of the Little Devil cards, may share
these stories and actions and is invited to laugh about them together with
everybody else who experienced similar happenings in their life also. Looking
backwards often shines a light on the positive effects showing up later, may be
just by thinking about.
The ColourChild®
The ColourChild® offers an invitation to learn more about yourself
through colours. The choice reflects your present feelings, your mood and your
stories or memories. Each colour has its own wavelength with which we resonate
when we spontaneously make our choice. We have got the same "Wavelength". The
selection of colours mirrors the message from the subconscious and reflects what
is of interest at the moment, and how we relate to what is happening. Therefore
the choice of colours for the ColourChild® allows us to recognise the individual
needs and to act consciously instead of only reacting.
Head, hands and feet of the ColourChild® represent the outer
relationships which are of importance at this moment, while the centre opens up
the possibility to look inside and come into contact with feelings, intuition
and life experience.
The colour for the head makes the thoughts visible, the
colour for the centre the feelings. The feet symbolise the life path, the left
foot the experiences you made in the past., the right foot show the plans for
the future. Feeling - reflecting - taking an action - this process constantly
demands decisions. The colour of the hands reflect our inner motivation; the
left hand shows our needs while the right helps to understand how we wish to
act.
Left and Right - Yin and Yang - Taking and GivingThere are two
sides to all things in life. Throughout history humans have developed many
theories to be able to understand these laws of nature: Yin and Yang, female and
male, passive and active, left and right part of the brain, intuition and
rationality, are examples for this polarity. Yin and Yang can be seen as
different energies but we can also think of them as one holistic energy, which
can lead to harmony and wellbeing, when they are balanced. You may look at both
parts of the brain as separate and you can also see them as a unity. You may
wish to divide between intuition and mind and you may also experience the wisdom
and joy when they function in harmony with each other.
In the ColourChild® the left side is connected to the female Yin energy,
to intuition, creativity and life experiences. The Yin energy supports our
decisions to take what we believe we need. The right side is connected to the
Yang energy, the actions we take according to our inner decisions.
Who am I?In the booklet with the game there are explanations
offered for each of the 14 colours, about the symbolism of the colour. As an
example the colour Royal Blue: the stars at night, philosophy - the sky at night
- inspiration and the drive to act - relating of insights - independent thinking
- acting creatively - sense of responsibility - compassion. The task is to -
develop your own life philosophy and act accordingly.
These explanations stimulate and activate creativity, individually and
amongst groups of players to learn more about yourself and each other and to
discover treasures hidden up to this moment or to rediscover those which have
been forgotten for a long time.
